Experience the Orange Blossom Classic Like Never Before with Visit Black Travel's Girls' Getaway Weekend
Every Labor Day Weekend, thousands of HBCU alumni, students, and football fans descend on South Florida for one of the nation's most celebrated Black college football traditions—the Orange Blossom Classic. But for many visitors, the weekend is about much more than the game. It's a reunion, a cultural celebration, and an opportunity to reconnect with the rich history that helped shape Black Miami.
This year, Visit Black Travel invites women to experience Orange Blossom Classic Weekend through a thoughtfully curated Girls' Getaway that combines boutique accommodations, premium game-day experiences, exclusive social events, and an authentic introduction to Historic Overtown—the neighborhood that has long served as the cultural heart of Orange Blossom Classic weekend.
A Legacy Rooted in Black Miami
Long before today's kickoff at Hard Rock Stadium, the Orange Blossom Classic became one of the premier showcases of Black college football at Miami's legendary Orange Bowl Stadium. Located just west of Historic Overtown, the stadium welcomed generations of HBCU fans, while Overtown itself became the neighborhood where visitors gathered to stay, dine, worship, celebrate, and experience the best of Black Miami.
During segregation, Overtown was one of the few places where Black travelers could find welcoming accommodations, restaurants, entertainment, and community. The neighborhood became synonymous with Orange Blossom Classic weekend, creating traditions that extended well beyond the football field.
Today, Historic Overtown remains one of Miami's most significant cultural districts. By staying at Dunns Josephine Hotel, a boutique property in the heart of the neighborhood, guests experience the Orange Blossom Classic from the place where so much of its history unfolded.
A Curated Girls' Getaway
Rather than simply bundling hotel rooms and game tickets, Visit Black Travel has created a premium weekend designed for friends who want to experience Black Miami together.
Guests may choose packages designed for two, three, or four travelers, with every getaway including:
- Four nights at Dunns Josephine Hotel in Historic Overtown
- Welcome cocktails upon arrival
- Club Level Orange Blossom Classic tickets
- The opportunity to choose seating on either the Florida A&M University (FAMU) side or the South Carolina State University (SCSU) side of the stadium (subject to availability)
- Orange Blossom Classic Fan Fest admission
- Admission to the South Florida Chapter of SCSUNAA's The Yard Miami Day Party
- Historic Overtown neighborhood guide
